WEIRD WISCONSIN – DOOR COUNTY: PORTAL TO ALIEN ENCOUNTERS

1952, May 21 – Coral E. Lorenzen, who would go on to found the Aerial Phenomena Research Organization (APRO) with her husband Jim, and many others at various locations around Sturgeon Bay, sighted a very large hovering flying saucer at around 7 p.m. They called each other by phone and were able to triangulate its location and size. It turns out the UFO was 780 feet in diameter. It flew away to the northeast. (Source: Coral E. Lorenzen, Flying Saucers: The Startling Evidence of the Invasion from Outer Space, p. 32).

1959, September 13 – At 1:05 a.m. Mr. R. H. Daubner of Gills Rock, Wisconsin observed a yellow ring of lights, with eight blue lights within it, and then five larger brilliant red lights. The object rose very fast vertically from a field three kilometers away, while making a pulsating jet noise. The tremendous pulsating noise hurt the ears of the witness. 1967, November 4 – At 3:10 a.m. Door County police had a close encounter with a ball of flashing lights near the Sturgeon Bay U.S. Coast Guard Station. The object was at 300 feet altitude, and it flew over the lake. It had the ability to stop, start, and back up. It was last seen a few miles off Sturgeon Bay. 1970, October 5 – At 4:00 a.m. at the Sturgeon Bay Hospital in Door County, Wisconsin, a nurse was called by an upset patient. He said he saw “monkeys” outside his window, swinging from the trees and sitting on the window ledge. She opened the drapes and saw a hovering, yellowish-green, balloon-shaped object emitting a white light beam. At 4:15 a.m. a red object with beams of bright light was sighted in Walsh, Illinois. 1975, August 17 – A daylight observation occurred of a disc-shaped object over Peninsula State Park near Egg Harbor by Douglas Anderson at 5:10 a.m. (Source: Jay Rath, The W-Files: True Reports of Wisconsin’s Unexplained Phenomena, p. 66).

1976, August 16 – At around four o’clock in the morning Dean Anderson and Wayne Schutte were working on golf course maintenance when they both noticed an orange “craft” as it dropped down into a culvert on the golf course at Peninsula State Park in Egg Harbor, Door County, Wisconsin. Anderson, who was riding a lawn mower, saw by its powerful headlights a figure first standing, and then running on the golf course, so he pursued him on his riding mower. He saw that the man’s helmet lit up and his belt first start glowing reddish, but then it started glowing green, yellow, pink, and orange, while the antenna on his helmet flashed bright red. Anderson had now closed to within ten feet of him, and could see that he was about seven feet tall and had a long nose. Suddenly, an energy beam shot down in front of the mower, causing it to stop, and the figure next turned around and looked at Anderson. Within a few seconds a small “scout ship” descended and opened a 3 foot by 3 foot door, which had flashing panels of light inside. The tall figure floated up into this doorway, and “the craft glowed bright blue, red, and orange and then took off.” The footprints of the man were measured to be 20 inches long, 8 inches wide, and five feet apart where he had been running. 1976, August 23 – Dean Anderson was cutting grass on the golf course in Egg Harbor, Door County, Wisconsin at 4:15 a.m. when he saw a large orange craft drop down into a culvert behind the road. Anderson stopped his lawn mower. Two figures emerged from a door in the craft and floated down to the ground on a “band of light.” The craft then took off. Both figures carried 3-foot long “flashlights”. They came up to Mr. Anderson and one of the beings extended his hand, which the witness shook. He said, “We come in peace. I am Sunar from Jupiter. This is Treena; she comes from Saturn.” The witness shook Treena’s hand while Sunar allegedly explained that they were here on a scientific mission, gathering specimens. Treena took off her outer spacesuit, and appeared in a close fitting, light green one-piece suit; the top was of “some glistening metallic material,” but the pants were dull. She also wore slippers. Her skin was light tan, her eyes bluish gray, and she had shoulder length hair. She was 5’2” tall. Sunar did most of the talking; he had copper colored skin, and said he was over 200 years old. The witness was told that the man he had chased on a previous closer encounter was Muton, from Mars, and that Sunar had once met Baha’u”llah, the founder of the Baha’i religion. After about 20 minutes of conversation, Treena put her spacesuit back on, and gave Anderson an envelope made of yellow nylon cloth, which she asked him not to open for nine days. The craft returned, and the two UFOnauts ascended to it on a beam of light. The craft was estimated to be 30 feet wide at the bottom, and 60 feet high. As soon as daylight allowed, the witness photographed the footprints of Treena and Sunar in the dirt. Later, upon opening the envelope, the witness found a gold-colored, engraved amulet inside. There is no mention of what he did with it, or whether he still has it. (Sources: David F. 1977, March 15 – At 8:30 p.m. Mrs. Joan Le Clair and four other local people saw a UFO hovering over some nearby trees in West Jacksonport, Door County, Wisconsin. Mrs. Le Clair looked through binoculars and could see an elongated object, green on top and bottom, with a red band around the center. “There appeared to be another compartment on the bottom of this disc, and I could see windows in this lower part. There appeared to be a figure inside the object.” After three minutes the UFO sped away. Other observers of the UFO failed to see the windows or the occupant. 1978, July 28 – A UFO traveling at 1200 mph was sighted over Two Rivers, Wisconsin at 11:57 p.m. What was described was the silhouette of either a cylinder or a sphere with a series of white, red, green, orange and blue colored lights, with one light at a time flashing from different positions. It flew to the northeast in an erratic flight path. Personnel at Sturgeon Bay U.S. Coast Guard Station, Door County sighted a similar object, traveling at a high rate of speed to the west-northwest, at 35 degrees elevation. At midnight the same or a similar object was seen and photographed over Two Rivers, Wisconsin and sightings continued in the early morning hours over Lake Superior and Lake Michigan. 1997, On Tuesday, June 10, 1997, at about 5 p.m., Rev. Billy Dee was driving home on Wisconsin’s Door Peninsula, “leaving the outskirts of the city of Sturgeon Bay (population 8,847).”

As he looked up “into the clear blue sky,” Rev. Dee saw “a metallic object that was brightly illuminated by the sun but also threw off its own light. Although small, about the size of a small hen’s egg, it was clear and vivid…It was the classic saucer shape craft…At first I thought it may be a small one-engine plane. But I soon gave up that thought, as I viewed the craft for over two minutes before it vanished. I can only describe it as what I saw was dazzling and beautiful, and mind- boggling.” (Email interview with Steve Wilson, Skywatch International)

On Saturday, June 14, 1997, at 3:45 p.m., William H. and his friend Julie were “sitting outside on our friends’ porch” in the city of Milwaukee” (population 636,212) when Julie spotted something strange in the sky over Lake Michigan.

Julie says, awestruck, “Oh, my God, look at that!” Mr. H. recalled. “At that point we both sprang from our chairs and stared at an erratic bright yellow/orange light doing crazy spirals. And then it slowed down a little and dropped out of the sky. What I want to know is if anybody else witnessed what we saw?” (Many thanks to Steve Wilson and Skywatch International for this report.) 2006, July 15 – Starting at 12:56 a.m. and continuing over the next 16 minutes, a moving light was sighted from north Sturgeon Bay, traveling in many directions, zigzagging and stopping over the waters of Green Bay – “a high level of unusual activity”.
